HUMOR AND SATIRE FROM
THE YEAR THE EARTH STOOD STILL

LEVITY AND LUNACY FROM THE YEAR OF COVID

By Nick Lotito

AS FEATURED ON

A Word From The Author

The Corona Monologues is fairly unique. It is a stand alone time capsule from 2020, the year the Earth stood still. Some monologues are grounded in the events of that year, others are designed to encourage escape through laughter and exploration of happier times and topics. Readers should find the writing style fresh and witty, and it is hoped that laughter and thoughtful reflection will be the response.

THE CORONA MONOLOGUES

The Corona Monologues is a series of 150 posts, all written in 2020, as we sheltered and attempted to survive the pandemic. The effort started innocently enough. It was my attempt to stay connected, to reach out to others at a time when we could not literally do so. The first, Fear and Loathing in Lockdown, and the next several, were received favorably, and I offered the prospect of more as a “pun a day.” By day 6, I dubbed these The Corona Monologues.

I posted monologues daily for over 70 entries and penned the 150th on December 30th. Earlier this year, I revisited them and decided to publish the Corona Monologues. The Monologues stand the test of time and ironically offer the 2020 hindsight we lacked in 2020. Eerily, the speculation in late 2020 of what Hocus POTUS might do, post election, is punctuated by the events which unfolded in early 2021 and beyond.

This delightful collection of essays by a whip smart lawyer with a wicked sense of humor is a must-read antidote to the “trying times” in which we live. The tone of laser sharp cultural critique married with wry comedy, puns, and Dad jokes, are viewed through an unconventional, and yet familiar cast of family, dogs, clients, politicians, household cleaning products, CDC directives, and the quest for good food. Worth the time of the busiest of people!
